Open on both ends, the Galley requires a minimum corridor width of 48” so that the cook can easily maneuver during meal preparation. Typically, appliances are near one another which is convenient, but due to the corridor shape of the kitchen, household traffic may pass though the space. You can also pick it up from our store in Los Angeles, California.

Anthurium in unique, vibrant colors that are both natural and created will provide an eye-catching addition to arrangements, sculptures, and floral displays. Virtual gardens use mixed media, projection, and photography depicting gardens, flowers, and plants, together with physical flowers. This connotes a rise in popularity of incorporating virtual mediums to create an immersive floral experience for guests. Rewilding of land is a gardening and landscape trend on the rise in 2024, especially the rewilding of urban areas. Rewilding helps to increase biodiversity and restore the natural processes of an ecosystem by reducing or ceasing human activity and reintroducing plant and animal species to take over a space naturally.

Love & Engagement

This gorgeous tattoo features a white diamond with wings, ready to take flight. The gorgeous shading and highlighting makes the diamond come to life. The diamond may represent wealth, while the wings may signify freedom. Together, they represent the wearer’s desire to free themselves from material aspects and live a happier and more fulfilling life. This kitchen shape works best when one or more of the walls are designed as half or “pony” walls, so that you can access the cabinet from more than one side.

Terrariums saw an explosion in popularity at the 2024 Flower Show. This approach to growing plants can accommodate a wide array of plant groups including gesneriads, ferns, and carnivorous plants. They are prized for their eye-catching container designs and the wide variety of style options can make them low maintenance, eye catching, and approachable for all levels of gardening experience. Red diamonds, though rare and often confused with ruby, have their own unparalleled beauty. The artist’s skill shading and sketching skills make this beautiful diamond seem almost life-like.

The elevation view is good for seeing the detail of the cabinetry components that aren’t visible in the floor plan view. It is also good for establishing heights of components within the room.

Among them, these 3 types of plants and terrariums reigned supreme in addition to being incorporated into many of the large-scale exhibits. Access your saved project resources including favorites, budget estimator, and room visualizer selections. A floor plan shows the wall layout from above, and an outline of all the components that will fill the space, such as base, wall and tall cabinetry. Sometimes lighting and electrical detailing are also shown on this plan. Be the first to know about exciting new designs, special events, store openings and much more. Aroids such as Philodendron, Amorphophallus, Monstera, and Anthurium continued in popularity.

Diamond offers dozens of ideas for organization to better maximize your space. At De Beers, the allure of natural diamonds has always inspired artistry. Just as nature forms diamonds, our designers and craftspeople are like sculptors, taking a rare and precious material and shaping it into an exceptional piece of art, often inspired by the natural world. And while our designs have an undeniable mystique and magnificence, we never forget diamonds are the heroes of the piece.

The 15 Best Ramen Shops in Los Angeles Eater LA

ani ramen house

This focused ramen shop in Torrance serves polished bowls with a garlicky broth. Chashu pork melts in one’s mouth, while the noodles are of the thin, wheat variety common at Hakata-style shops. One of LA’s most creative ramen shops comes from Top Chef winner Ilan Hall. To make the Grand Central Market stall’s signature vegan broth, Hall takes umami-rich ingredients like konbu and shiitake mushrooms and combines it with roasted sunflower seeds and white miso. The result is a rich broth that’s as good as a traditional porky one; a vegan “egg” tops every bowl. This Michelin-recommended ramen shop has a slightly more upscale and polished feel than competing shops, with some bowls reaching and surpassing $30.

This tantanmen specialist on Sawtelle comes from the prolific Tsujita group, which already has two standout noodle restaurants on the block. What’s different about Killer Noodle is its homage to the spicy, Chinese-inflected tantanmen. With sesame- and pepper-laden noodles, the ramen is served as a noodle soup or “dry” on a platter.

Killer Noodle

Tsukemen Aizen’s deluxe offering serves thinly shaved pork in a flower-like formation, along with a mound of thick noodles, spinach, lotus root, and boiled eggs. The star — a side bowl of fishy, umami-riddled dipping broth — coats every dipped noodle with an explosion of salty, fatty flavor. The waits are at least 20 minutes and upwards of an hour during prime meal hours. This all-ramen restaurant features a signature bowl with thick noodles and a dense broth that’s chock-full of garlic and pork back fat. The tsukemen’s broth is tinged with a vinegary kick and served with flat noodles that work well for dipping and slurping. Both the tonkotsu ramen and tsukemen are among the best versions available in LA.

Tsukemen Aizen

The results are terrific for those willing to shell out a few extra bucks, especially the signature shina soba ramen with an intense broth, wontons, and chashu. For a more creative combination, try the whole lamb chops swimming in spicy red soup. Tokyo’s famous Afuri opened in LA after first expanding to Oregon. Sporting a yuzu-tinted seafood and chicken broth, this lighter style of ramen still packs plenty of flavor with soba-like noodles made on the premises and high-quality toppings. The cocktails and minimalist ambience makes the whole affair a pleasant experience. This Orange County ramen shop recently expanded to Gardena, with a stall inside the Tokyo Central Market serving tsukemen and ramen.

The broth and noodles are nearly perfect, with a strong seafood umami to round the soup out. Los Angeles has a long history of great ramen, but only in the past few years has the scene hit its stride. From rich tonkotsu (pork) to shoyu (soy sauce) and shio (salt), here now are the 15 essential ramen shops in Los Angeles. Originally from Tokyo, Tonchin LA takes over a prime Melrose Avenue location with sleek vibes, a cocktail bar, and upscale ramen bowls. Everyone orders the smoked dashi with whole clams or the tonkatsu broth. The shop’s thick, wavy noodles are made on the premises.

This diminutive ramen shop is the best place for Japanese noodles on the Westside. With a composed, well-balanced broth that's not too rich, and sporting firm, high-quality noodles, it's a very good Tsujita competitor for Hakata-style tonkotsu. For something a little less heavy, opt for the chuka soba, a Tokyo-style bowl with a lighter broth. The lighter Tokyo-style ramen has a terrific burst of bonito to round out the flavors without an overly rich tonkotsu broth. This tsukemen specialist took over sister restaurant Aizen Udon, which moved to the Little Tokyo Marketplace a few blocks over.

This all comes together as a modern, casual interpretation of our favorite Tokyo experiences, here in New Jersey. We embraced the tradition of quality, hand-rolled noodle ramen by interpreting it in our own modern way to bring a unique and vibrant atmosphere. This versatile ramen shop tucked in a sleepy Koreatown strip mall prepares everything from a classic shoyu to a Tokyo-style yuzu shio and wagyu beef ramen. In addition to the extensive ramen menu, there’s a wide selection of izakaya fare including sushi rolls, fried shishito peppers, and more. When does mazemen (dry ramen) start to just resemble pasta?

Improving the design and content of atlassian.design is just the tip of the iceberg. Beyond the surface of the redesign, our engineers have also rearchitected the foundation of what our site is built upon. We improved our infrastructure with Gatsby, integrating with Contentful. The new site is faster, more reliable, and aligns with Atlassian platform standards.

As a platform team, investing in our infrastructure will help us as we continue to scale. In many organizations, designers span multiple teams (or even products!). These shared visual styles and components create harmonious experiences across Atlassian products.

Agile Design

The decision paid off since it resulted in design systems champions embedded across the company. A lot of the time, we’re investigating what products are already doing and testing any system improvements in product screens that have already been designed by product designers. This means we spend a lot of time in Figma evaluating screens for Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Trello, etc.

It’s traditionally been thought of as a cottage industry – a bunch of specialized folks crafting beautiful one-off solutions. Special thanks to Jocelyn Wong for designing the cover illustration. We hope you’re inspired and are just as excited about our team and the future of Atlassian Design System.

We’re excited to share that we achieved everything we strove for, but more importantly, we’re inspired to share everything we’ve discovered along the way. We uncovered a few larger systemic issues, and there were lots of challenges and hurdles we had to overcome. It has been an immense cross-collaborative effort across brand, design, content design, and engineering, and this would not have been possible without our perseverance to play, as a team (one of our core Atlassian values).

atlassian design system

Meanwhile, principles are guides to behavior, how we achieve our values. They guide how we live the values and influence the results we achieve. Look forward to a series of blogs around these details, as we reflect upon our learnings from this great journey.

Use the design system alongside the rest of Atlassian’s platform, design, and product resources. Dive into a monthly tutorial with the Optimized Dev Newsletter that helps you decide which new web dev tools are worth adding to your stack. Mailchimp empowers businesses to grow while staying true to themselves. Shopify is an all-in-one e-commerce platform to start, run, and grow a business. From the makers of our loved and loved to be hated on Microsoft, we all know them for their ubiquitous computer operating system Windows, computer software Office and internet browser Internet Explorer.

We also had a ~3 month rotation program where designers and engineers were taken from their respective products and would work on the Design Platform team to push the system forward. They would contribute heavily while they were on our team, and then return to their original product teams being staunch advocates for the system. The goal of a design system is to scale yourself (and your design team) to build product faster and empower everyone to make better design decisions. At Asana, we’re at the start of our journey to build a holistic design system. I’ve found that reflecting on these lessons has helped us set the team, and the company, up for success so that we deliver the true value of a design system.

atlassian design system

We're on a mission to make it easy for teams to design, develop, and deliver high-quality Atlassian UI. A common misconception about design systems is that once they’re established, or, in this case, once their documentation is published or site is launched, they become an omnipotent and an unchangeable source of truth. Modern technologies like CSS make it easy to separate the look of an application from the logic in an application. Likewise, make sure to structure automated tests so they will be resilient when the visual design evolves.

Showcase (aka. more designing) — 30 min

Everyone approaches and thinks of values and principles differently, so we started by gathering inspiration from other design systems. Then we crafted clear definitions of what values and principles mean to us, along with where they fit with our strategy, mission, and vision. Our building blocks work together to create products that feel familiar, cohesive, and part of a family. Our Figma libraries and tools include our foundational styles, design tokens, components, and other helpers. Usually, the safest approach is to analyze existing systems to see which ones are the closest to your brand and needs.

The Atlassian Design System – Creating Design Harmony at Scale

In a nutshell, a design system is a collection of documents, articles, examples, code snippets, screenshots, design guidelines, components, philosophies and other digital assets for a product design company. Think of it as a big knowledge-base that is part UI kit, part documentation with instructions, language and coding guidelines all wrapped up together. Each component meets a specific interaction or UI need, and has been specifically created to work together to create patterns and intuitive user experiences.

Approach #1: Create your Design System from scratch

Design will change, and it's important to ensure the code base can easily follow new trends. As the team engages in sprint planning and backlog grooming, involve the designers. Getting their input when making decisions about the product's future direction will make getting there easier. As you just saw, the product owner and the designer will spend time brainstorming and iterating on the product plan early on.

What is a UX UI design system?

We started by sharing the history of how the design system has evolved from Atlassian Design Guidelines in 2012 all the way to Atlassian Design System in 2020. We brought people on the journey ✨(our principle demonstrating Empowering, for everyone) by sharing context, brainstorming, discussing, and sparring ideas together as a team. With a strong internal focus on quality, our values and principles couldn’t have arrived at a better time. The Atlassian Design System is powered by a team of over 30 designers, engineers, and content designers. As we scale, it becomes harder and harder to coordinate the growing team to work towards the same vision. Our vision is to be the cornerstone of crafting quality user interfaces in Atlassian products.

atlassian design system

And as mentioned above, we include developers and product owners in the design process. As the full team works together using the Atlassian Design Guidelines, developers and product owners become better designers. That skill set then becomes shared across the team, which is a fundamental value in agile culture.

atlassian design system

For instance, if you open up an icon library like react-icons, you will notice each collection has a unique and distinct feel. Below are the design systems which are often utilized by Open UI for research purposes. Over the course of 2013, and with Atlassian doubling in size nearly every year, I had basically onboarded about 500 people about the importance of our design system and how they can use it. I found this to be a really effective way of changing the company culture with regard to design. Without doing something that didn’t scale, we might have taken a lot longer to get started. When you’re working on your system, try not to get too obsessed with over-engineering a seamless, perfect workflow but instead look for scrappy ways to start, and just keep making progress if it’s working.

The design process

As I mentioned above, the Atlassian design team at the start of 2013 was relatively small (~13 people) compared to the engineering team (~300 people). One of the benefits of including written guidelines was that engineers could make a huge amount of progress without a designer there. It meant that we could stop designing screens in Sketch and instead, jump on a whiteboard and brainstorm a flow, or start to work on much bigger product problems that existed upstream. With the uptick in design systems discussions over the last couple of years, I’m occasionally asked for tips or insights from my experience building the design system at Atlassian.

When a designer needs to whip up a new landing page, all the pre-designed UI symbol elements are ready to drop in and can be non-destructably edited. When a marketer needs to send out a newsletter, there is no question as to the kind of tone the copy should be written in or what the header image should be. It's all there, clearly laid out and because everyone has discussed, contributed to and agreed upon it there is no question as to what and how things need to be done.

For example, I’d go through some history of how we used to have 44 different dropdown menus (not an exaggeration), but we have one now and here is how you should use it. The very first version of the Atlassian Design System was about 20 static HTML files that I was hosting on a Mac Pro under my desk. There was no templating in these files, no version control, I had imported the CSS from our products, and I wrote the markup myself for each component. This version was nasty to update and wasn’t scalable, but enough people found value in it that it I was inspired to invest more time and effort that put us on the path to creating the Atlassian Design System. The team works in 2-week sprints to ship iterations within days or weeks to customers. Larger changes (like revamping a color scheme or set of UI patterns) require more time.

First, we’re excited to share with the community some of our favorite new features. Customer interviews provide rich information to incorporate into the design process. Atlassians are required to use the latest version of ESLint, and we strongly recommend it for anyone using design system packages. You can also find design systems from global companies like Microsoft’s Fluent, IBM’s Carbon, GitHub’s Primer, and over 50 others to explore in this GitHub repo.

Atlassian Design System is a collection of UI components, foundations, and standards that help teams build beautiful product experiences. An online design system is a digital repository accessible via the Internet that contains design assets, guidelines, and tools to facilitate collaborative design and development processes. It is also a great case study reference for how to make your own UI/UX designs as inclusive as possible. Luckily, as James points out, embedding designers in product teams (and vice versa with developers in design teams) helps build consensus more quickly for changes to the design system. People from multiple teams contributed to the process – a dedicated team wasn’t formed at first so that the design system wouldn’t be created in isolation.

Back in 2013 the designer to engineer ratio was something in the range of 1 designer to every 15–20 engineers. While I shudder at the thought of that number today, back then I tried to use that imbalance to my advantage. Something that helped me get the engineering org on my side at Atlassian was to create a talk for new starters during their first week of onboarding at the company. About 15 or so people would be there every week and I’d be able to get them to understand what we were trying to do from day 1.

It began with extensive audits across our content, design, tooling, and code. We applied the visual foundations of our design system and reused existing components to design and build the new site, truly putting our design system to the test. Starting from an existing Design System with a similar Component & Pattern Library might set you up with a great start.

Atlassian Design System values and principles work in tandem with all of the others, not in place of them. They help our team align on what kind of design system we want to build at Atlassian, what needs we address, and how we address them. And they’re not just for our design system team — we hope to use them to enable contribution in the future.

The first itinerary, "Into the Northwest Passage," is a 13-day roundtrip voyage from Nuuk, Greenland.

Highlights of Mediterranean Cruises

Both ships have a passenger capacity of just 378 passengers and carry numerous extra technical pieces of equipment, including two submarines, a first for a cruise ship. This evening dress code is not enforced at the casual World Cafe eateries on Viking ocean ships, where passengers can go even more casual in the evenings. However, unlike nearly every other cruise brand, what you won't find are families with young kids. As noted above, Viking doesn't allow passengers under the age of 18 on its ships — a key differentiator for the brand as compared to other cruise lines. Most Viking Longships are 443 feet long, the perfect length to fit into the locks on many of Europe's rivers. Viking has also built slightly shorter versions of the Longships measuring 262 feet, 361 feet or 410 feet in length specifically to sail on rivers where lock sizes or other navigational factors require a smaller vessel.

Why Do Most Viking Longships in Europe Look Exactly Alike?

Another exclusive partnership was signed with Cornell Lab of Ornithology (unit of Ithaca NY's Cornell University) which specializes in global bird research. Cornell Lab's ornithologists are also always present on the ship to interact with the passengers. Viking Cruises also partnered with NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). NOAA scientists are present on all Great Lakes USA voyages to conduct researches (on local weather changes and ecosystems) and present lectures themed on the Great Lakes region.

The B2B itinerary started with Valletta overnight and visited Kotor, Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, Sibenik, Mgarr Malta, Valletta (overnight), Kalamata, Piraeus-Athens (overnight), Santorini, Rhodes, Souda Crete. The second itinerary, "Canada & Greenland Explorer," spans 15 days and operates between Toronto, Ontario, and Nuuk. Travelers on this awe-inspiring journey explore the rugged shores of Canada and Greenland, surrounded by drifting icebergs and dramatic landscapes. They have the opportunity to learn about Inuit traditions in remote communities and experience the stark beauty of the Arctic. Sailing dates for this itinerary are available in July and September 2025.

Meander along Europe’s great waterways, gliding past magnificent vistas and pausing to explore riverside ports. The Viking Expedition ships are purpose-built expedition ships to sail in Antarctica and the Great Lakes where the ship not only carries fare-paying passengers but also conducts scientific research throughout the voyage too. All Viking Ocean cruise ships have a maximum capacity of 930 passengers.

It takes guests to remarkable destinations such as the pristine waters of the Ilulissat Icefjord and the eastern entrance of the renowned Northwest Passage in Pond Inlet, Canada. In October 2023 was announced plan for further investments in the Chinese market. Specifically, two new riverboats will be introduced in 2024, in addition to ocean ship cruises in Europe/Mediterranean tailored for Chinese consumers. Viking Cruises Ltd (shipowner) is the parent company of Viking Flusskreuzfahrten AG (Viking River Cruises) as well as of KD Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt GmbH, which is subsidiary of Koln-Dusseldorfer (aka KD Cruises, fka KD Line). KD Line is an 1826-founded, Cologne-based company with a fleet of 14 cruise vessels (including "event ships" and a paddle steamer) deployed in Germany, on the rivers Moselle, Rhine and Main. Viking river cruise ship layouts center on the glass-enclosed Aquavit Terrace. Part dining area, part sunny hangout, the Aquavit Terrace sits at the front of the ship and provides a perfect vantage point for scenic sailing.

In keeping with the high-end nature of the brand, Viking cabins and suites have a lot of upscale touches, from sumptuous bedding that envelops you to heated floors in bathrooms. Designwise, Viking cabins and suites across all categories are modern and elegant in an understated sort of way, with Scandinavian-influenced furnishings and decor that tie to the Norwegian heritage of the company's founder. Is a balcony something you can't live without when staying in a cabin on a cruise ship? In general, it's an educated crowd, with many passengers coming from professional backgrounds or a life of running their own businesses. They're often people who have spent years focused on work and building up savings for retirement, and they're finally ready to start enjoying the fruits of their labor by spending some of the savings on travel to places they've long put off visiting.

Cruises and COVID-19: CDC updates guidance for high-risk travelers

travel cruise

In July, four vaccinated adults and two unvaccinated children tested positive for COVID-19 on a Royal Caribbean ship that had required passengers 16 and older to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and all passengers to receive a negative test before boarding. Last week, 27 people – 26 of whom were crew members – tested positive for COVID-19 on Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Vista ship. More than 99% of crew members were vaccinated on the ship and 96.5% of passengers were vaccinated, according to the Belize Tourism Board. The new guidance applies to older adults, people with certain medical conditions and pregnant and recently pregnant people. Prior to Friday’s announcement, the agency recommended that only people who were not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 avoid cruise ships. The CDC recommends people who go on cruises wear a mask in shared spaces and get tested one to three days before their trip and three to five days after, regardless of vaccination status.

CDC warns older adults, travelers in COVID high-risk groups not to take cruises, even if they're vaccinated

Passengers who are not fully vaccinated should also self-quarantine for at least seven days after their cruise ends, according to the CDC's website. It all starts with the boldest cruise ships at sea — and ours have won awards for everything from world class dining and spectacular entertainment, to record-setting onboard thrills and groundbreaking innovation. COVID-19 outbreaks have been reported on cruise ships in recent months, despite various testing and vaccination requirements among cruise lines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its guidance for travelers who are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 to recommend they avoid cruise ships, regardless of vaccination status. Princess Cruises, Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line added mask requirements in select spaces and testing requirements for all passengers, regardless of vaccination status, earlier this month.
